Periodontal Treatments to Ensure the Health of Your Gums
Healthy Gums With Effective Periodontal Treatments
Scaling and Root Planing
Scaling and root planing is a non-surgical treatment for periodontal disease that is similar to a deep cleaning. Bacteria and plaque are removed from the tooth surfaces with hand tools and ultrasonic instruments, even below the gum line. Since roots can incur rough patches due to damage from the bacteria, these surfaces will be smoothed during scaling and root planing, which also will encourage reattachment of gum tissue and shrink periodontal pockets.

Periodontal Maintenance
Even after you have undergone scaling and root planing or laser gum surgery for periodontal disease, some bacteria will be present in the mouth. DICMI recommends periodontal maintenance in three to four month intervals to control the population of bacteria, preventing future infection.
